Volunteer on the Board of Directors

Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia is one of the 45 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across Canada. Since launching in 1992, Habitat Nova Scotia has built 78 homes in the province.

Our Board of Directors provides guidance and leadership on the strategic direction of Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia. Members are committed to Habitat for Humanity’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to call home, and they are willing to fulfill the duties of a Board member and volunteer their time, talent, and other resources to lead the affiliate and ensure its success in the province.

The board meets on average 10 times per year (no meetings in August or December). Currently, meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of the month from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Expectations of Board Members

  • Regularly attend monthly meetings of the Board and important related meetings and events.
  • Be willing to commit five to ten hours each month.
  • Prepare well for meetings by reviewing documentation provided by e-mail for each meeting including minutes and committee reports.
  • Participate in fundraising.
  • Respect confidentiality of matters discussed at the Board.

  • A history of leadership.
  • Reflect the diversity of Nova Scotia.
  • Be informed about the state of housing in Nova Scotia and committed to making homeownership more attainable for families in the province.

Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia is registered with the Nova Scotia Registry of Joint Stocks. Officers of the Board consist of a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Treasurer, and Secretary; the other Board Members are considered Members at Large. Copies of our By-Laws, policies and procedures, and board liability insurance are available upon request.
